InnovationOptim is new technology that involves stretching the merino wool fibre to make it lighter and stronger, softer than cashmere and smoother than silk. Rather than competing with cashmere and silk, Optim is joining forces to produce some of the world’s softest and smoothest garments, yarns and fabrics. The Optim process was developed in Australia by CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology in conjunction with The Woolmark Company. Optim is a trademark of The Woolmark Company and is used exclusively in Australia by Interwool for its in-house brands and development clients. Interwool leads the market in its development and use of new natural fibre blends. On a mission to dispel the myth that wool fibre is a winter-only fibre, we continue to blend fine merino wool into summer blends to create incredibly lightweight, naturally breathable and beautiful-to-wear knit pieces. Also in the mix are innovative blends of cotton and cashmere, silk-linen and cotton-silk-cashmere. We are currently assessing the performance of yarns made from soybean and bamboo and may offer them to the market once we determine they meet our strict quality requirements.
